TOPIC: No SMS in the USA

No SMS in the USA 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 47
It seems that Clickatell.com has changed their pricing for US customers.

In the past they offered an inexpensive solution ('shared short code'), and a very expensive - high end solution, for 2way SMS (not used by ABPro).

I have now heard from two new customers that Clickatell.com's inexpensive solution is no longer available for US customers.

Note:
ABPro has no support built in for Short Code as the requirement is new, and I am not prepared to spend the outrageous sums that Clickatell seems to want from US customers now.

Note 2:
I am currently looking at switching to textmarks.com, but I cannot say how soon that will happen. see update below

## UPDATE ##

SMS in the USA is now off the table, indefinitely.

My research with alternate SMS providers in the US has hit a brick wall.
The opt-in requirements of US carriers are extremely strict, apparently this is exactly how Clickatell got their 'shared short code' shut down.
US carriers require the recipient to opt-in by one of a couple of different means - none of which can be handled by ABPro.

Sprint has cut off carriers such as Clickatell (a global sms aggregator) from allowing shared short code messages to be sent.

Whats a shared short code?

To save costs, carriers such as Clickatell allow smaller companies to use a shared short code because they can't afford the really high costs of getting their own short code ($900 a month and up).

Sprint claims that it is to prevent spam...
